Sprayway outdoor clothing.
This outdoor branding photo shoot was for Sprayway clothing. The brief was to create a series of images that told the story of a day trekking in the mountains of Snowdonia. The team was a mix of mountain leaders and clients, being taken on a guided hike in the mountains. The photo shoot took place in late Winter, so there was still snow on the ground but most had thawed so they weren’t walking in full Winter conditions. The team were based at the climbers hut, just North of Cwm Glass Mawr and the shoot took us to a range of different mountain situations. The objective was to capture the feel of the day, combined with some product photography of the Sprayway jackets. There was no art direction on the shoot, so the brief was open to my interpretation. Conditions were great, a mix of late winter light, clear skies and some low level cloud to add to the drama. The guys were all competent in the mountains, so happy with my direction and able to offer their own technical input, which helped create some realistic scenarios.
Being a photographer and a mountain leader helps me to understand what outdoor brands want when creating a series of images that tell the brand story. Knowing the terrain in both Snowdonia and the Lake District are hugely important to giving me an advantage the it comes to finding the right location, avoiding weather that can hamper the shoot and ensuring that the team get up and down safely. Having that local knowledge also helps me take the team to dramatic spots quickly and efficiently, so that we can maximise our time in the mountains, to deliver the range of images that the client needs.
